How to create Reels?
Training course on video editing for social media.
Between 29 and 30 May, a training course was organised at the Lutheran Centre in Warsaw for those responsible for managing parish websites and social media profiles. The event was organised with financial support from the Lutheran World Federation.
The workshop was led by Krzysztof Tylicki from the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Sopot – a graphic designer, creator of content for traditional and digital media, and a specialist with 25 years’ experience in online marketing, who actively supports the Church’s media activities.
The training covered editing, montage and the addition of effects using both the professional software DaVinci Resolve 20 and Instagram’s built-in editor. Participants learnt about the technical aspects of video production. Among other things, they learnt how to optimise the quality of footage – for example, by recording video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, so that the final edited video could be exported and published in HD quality at 25 or 30 frames per second.
As part of the practical exercises, the participants recorded their own presentations, and each of them then edited their own 30-second test reel.
Working with their own footage and best practices
The second day of the workshop was devoted to independent work with the participants’ own files. The participants practised:
• selecting and choosing suitable footage,
• planning and building a narrative,
• synchronising the footage with music,
• adding a voice-over.
The training concluded with a discussion of the most important principles and the preparation of a publication checklist. The trainer also highlighted the most common mistakes, explaining what to avoid at all costs when running activities on YouTube and social media.
The two-day meeting was attended by representatives from parishes in Giżycko, Hołdunów, Koszalin, Kraków and Pabianice.
