The discussion process on the ordination of women in the Lutheran Church in Poland has been going on intermittently for over 70 years. Since 1999, thanks to changes in the law, women in the Lutheran Church in Poland could be ministers and served as deacons. The Church’s Synod voted in favor of women ordination for pastors on Saturday 16 October 2021.

Since January 1st, 2022 the women who served as deacons in the Church might apply for the ordination to pastor. Deacons: Karina Chwastek-Kamieniorz (parish in Goleszów), Małgorzata Gaś (Holy Trinity parish in Warsaw), Beata Janota (parish in Cieszyn), Katarzyna Kowalska (Center for Mission and Evangelism), Wiktoria Matloch (parish in Kraków), Halina Radacz (parish in Żyrardów), Katarzyna Rudkowska (parish in Radom), Izabela Sikora (parish in Szczecin), Marta Zachraj-Mikołajczyk (Divine Providence parish in Wrocław) requested for the ordination. On 25th February 2022 the Consistory of the Church took an unanimously decision to admit them to the ordination for pastors.

We would like to rejoice this important event in the history of the Lutheran Church in Poland, quoting the verse of Psalm 100, 2 chosen for the invitation letter to this solemn service: “Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs”.
