The German National Tourist Board promotes Luther

500 years of the Reformation and Martin Luther’s history are the main topics of the outgoing to Germany in 2017. Therefore the German National Tourist Board (DZT) invited the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland to cooperate in this year of the jubilee.

On January 26, 2017, during the annual press conference of DZT in the Lutheran parish in Warsaw, a current offer of DZT was presented, last year’s activities were summarized, the tourist offer of Saxony was presented and the journalists were acquainted with the history and presence of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland.

The press conference was led by the director of the DZT Marketing and Sales Office in Poland, Tomasz Pędzik. The media representatives were greeted by the pastor, Rev. Dariusz Chwastek. Director Pędzik told the participants about the activity of DZT in 2016 and underlined that the number of Poles visiting Germany had increased again. Next he presented in details this year’s topic of the outgoing to Germany – the jubilee of the 500 years of the Reformation. In the frames of the Year of the Reformation a cycle of touristic routes had been planned. It consists of 8 thematical routes, 2000 km of hiking trails and numerous cultural events.

Among the participants of the conference, there were the representatives of the Saxony Tourist Organization, the president Hans-Jürgen Goller, and the manager of the foreign markets and the Luther 2017 program, Dorothea Schäffler. The guests presented Saxony, its attractions and tourist offer. The part of this offer is also connected with the Reformation and the jubilee: e.g. Torgau is a place connected with Katarzyna von Bora, and Leipzig with Jan Sebastian Bach.

A very important point of the conference was the presentation of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland, its history and activity. It was prepared by Agnieszka Godfrejów-Tarnogórska, the press spokesman of the Church. A short film about the Church was also screened, presenting its current nature, diaconal, missional and educational activity. The press spokesman mentioned also various events connected with the jubilee and celebrations that are going to take place also in Poland.

The press conference was ended with Michał Szulim’s performance. He presented the song of Jacek Kaczmarski, titled “Martin Luther”. After this part the participants were invited for lunch, where they had time for questions and conversations.
