Collection to people in Aleppo and Lesvos

Collection of funds for the Community of Evangelical Churches in Europe for medical assistance to people in Aleppo and in the refugee camps in Lesvos.

Before the Easter, the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) launched the appeal for donations to help fund medical assistance for the people stranded on Lesbos and in Aleppo. The President of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) Gottfried Locher, stressed that "we cannot celebrate Easter without also including the refugees in our thoughts". He reminded that the joy that we draw from the resurrection of Jesus Christ should inspire us to follow Christ and notice and support those in need.

GEKE pointed out the plight of the refugees during the coronavirus epidemic and recalled two projects supporting people who are trying to survive in the war-torn Aleppo and immigrants and refugees who are now trapped in overcrowded camps in Lesvos. (full text of the appeal).

The Easter period is six weeks in which we emphasize the meaning of the resurrection and the hope that comes from it for all people. These holidays were different than before. To prevent the coronavirus infection, we stayed and still stay in our homes. Most of the time we focus on ourselves and our families. Refugees who have left their homes have no safe haven or shelter like us. Their fate is uncertain. Crowded in camps, tired of wandering around, they are more exposed to the virus. Therefore, grateful for having our own homes, we can spread hope instead of the virus. To be together with the refugees despite the distance, Lutherans in Poland joined the appeal of the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe.

The Consistor of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland, in response to the appeal of GEKE, adopted a resolution on April 17, 2020. The members of Consistory encouraged the donation of funds to GEKE for medical assistance to people in Aleppo and in refugee camps in Lesvos. The action will last until 31 May 2020.

The funds can be transferred through an online payment system: LINK or to a Church bank account with a note: "for religious purposes – GEKE".

Thank you for every gift!
