The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is the global communion of Christian churches in the Lutheran tradition. It was founded in 1947 in Lund (Sweden). The Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession was one of the founders and is a member since 1947. Currently the LWF has 149 member churches in 99 countries which represent over 80 mln Christians. The Assembly is the highest governing body, summoned every six years. Between the Assemblies, the LWF is governed by the Council that meets once in 12-18 months. Archbishop Dr Panti Filibus Musa, from the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria, is the president of the LWF (elected in 2017). Rev. Dr Anne Burghardt from Estonia is the General Secretary. She is the first woman and first person from Central Eastern Europe to hold this office. She was elected by the LWF Council at its 2021 meeting and assumed office on 1 November 2021.

There is also a Polish Comittee of the Lutheran World Federation whose chairman is Rev. Dr Adam Malina.
The Polish Lutheran church is active in the Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE). The Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE), formerly Leuenberg Church Fellowship, is the umbrella organization of the protestant churches. The CPCE exists thanks to the Leuenberg Agreement of 1973. It ended 450 years long period of division between the Lutheran and Reformed churches. The churches that became signatories of the Leuenberg Agreement accepted altar fellowship and pulpit fellowship and they agreed for further cooperation on the local, regional and European level. Currently the Leuenberg Agreement is signed by 105 evangelical churches. CPCE was formerly known as the Leuenberg Church Fellowship but the name was changed on 1st November 2003. Rev. Marcin Brzóska from the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland is the council member.
In addition, church maintains contacts with many Protestant churches around the world. In particular, it cooperates with the: Oregon Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; Silesian Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic; regional German Protestant churches in Bavaria, Hessen-Nassau, Rhineland, and North and Westphalia; Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary; Protestant Church in the Netherlands; Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Slovak Republic; and the Uppsala Archdiocese of Church of Sweden.
